Conversational AI is reshaping customer engagement, and Twilio's Conversation Memory team is building foundational platform capabilities for the next generation. Twilio is hiring a Senior Manager, Machine Learning for a remote India role—a player-coach position requiring hands-on technical expertise while providing strategic direction to build context-aware customer engagement applications.
This 0-to-1 platform role bridges theoretical research and production-grade experimentation at Twilio's massive data scale.
What you'll do
- Collaborate with engineering and cross-functional teams to translate business problems into ML product roadmaps
- Have a player-coach mentality contributing hands-on technical expertise with strategic direction
- Establish high-performing engineering setup for rapid iteration, experimentation, and model deployment
- Drive continuous improvement in processes, tooling, and infrastructure for velocity and quality
- Monitor ML and AI landscape for state-of-the-art research and strategic adoption
- Recruit, manage, and develop diverse and highly-skilled ML Engineers
- Define and track KPIs measuring impact and success of ML products
- Manage project timelines, dependencies, and risks ensuring timely delivery
- Foster culture of operational excellence and partnership with product and business stakeholders
What we're looking for
- Bachelor's in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field
- 10+ years experience in Applied ML or AI including 3+ years leading ML Engineers or data scientists
- Proven experience defining and executing multi-year technical vision for large-scale ML platform
- Deep expertise in production-grade ML/AI systems: LLM orchestration, embedding models, vector stores
Skills & Technologies
Required
Bachelor's in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field
10+ years experience in Applied ML or AI including 3+ years leading ML Engineers or data scientists
Proven experience defining and executing multi-year technical vision for large-scale ML platform
Deep expertise in production-grade ML/AI systems: LLM orchestration, embedding models, vector stores
Extensive MLOps and LLMOps experience with evaluation metrics for non-deterministic AI at scale
Strong background building cloud-based services (AWS, GCP, or Azure) with high-volume data
Experience recruiting, hiring, and scaling high-performing ML or engineering teams
Exceptional communication, mentorship, and cross-team collaboration skills
