About the Role
Atlassian is hiring a Principal Machine Learning Engineer in Bengaluru to set the technical direction for AI across Jira Service Management (JSM). This role designs multi-step LLM pipelines, retrieval and grounding systems, and evaluation frameworks at enterprise scale.

What you'll do
- Set technical direction for how AI is built and shipped across JSM
- Design and improve multi-step LLM pipelines for AI service experiences
- Build retrieval and grounding systems surfacing knowledge articles, past requests, and structured data
- Own quality, latency, cost, and reliability of AI workflows at enterprise scale
- Make quality measurable through evaluation frameworks and benchmark datasets
- Run disciplined experiments validating model, prompt, and retrieval changes
- Set multi-quarter ML strategy and architectural decisions spanning multiple teams
- Mentor and grow emerging ML engineers
What we're looking for
- 10+ years total experience; 5+ years in MLE/data science domain
- Fluency in Python
- Solid understanding of ML concepts: supervised/unsupervised learning, deep learning, NLP
- Familiarity with scikit-learn, Keras/TensorFlow/PyTorch, numpy, pandas
