About the Role
Industrial and engineering AI is advancing rapidly, and Coherent Corp. is hiring a Manager - Data Science & AI in Hyderabad to architect and oversee AI/ML systems for enterprise and engineering use cases. This hybrid role requires hands-on technical leadership through design reviews, code reviews, mentoring, and execution guidance for a small AI engineering team.
The role spans LLMs, RAG, agentic systems, workflow orchestration, and the full lifecycle from research and prototyping through production deployment.
What you'll do
- Architect and oversee AI/ML systems, pipelines, and application platforms for enterprise and engineering use cases
- Set engineering standards and guide technical decisions around model selection, architecture, and lifecycle management
- Provide hands-on technical leadership through design reviews, code reviews, mentoring, and execution guidance
- Lead design and implementation of LLM, RAG, agentic systems, enterprise connectors, and workflow orchestration
- Translate business and engineering needs into practical AI architectures and phased delivery roadmaps
- Drive full lifecycle of AI applications from research through production deployment and operational support
- Ensure AI solutions are explainable, reliable, secure, and aligned with regulatory expectations
- Work closely with data engineering, software engineering, IT, and business teams
- Stay current with AI/ML advances and drive pragmatic adoption using cloud-native or hybrid architectures
What we're looking for
- Bachelor's/Master's in Computer Science with specialization in Data Science/AI/ML/Statistics
- 12-15 years overall experience with minimum 5 years relevant experience
- Experience with open-source model ecosystems, model serving, and deployment optimization
- Experience designing evaluation frameworks, benchmarks, guardrails, and quality measurement
Skills & Technologies
Required
Bachelor's/Master's in Computer Science with specialization in Data Science/AI/ML/Statistics
12-15 years overall experience with minimum 5 years relevant experience
Experience with open-source model ecosystems, model serving, and deployment optimization
Experience designing evaluation frameworks, benchmarks, guardrails, and quality measurement
Experience with supervised and unsupervised machine learning models
Experience managing a highly talented AI/Data Science team of 5+ people
Design, build, automate, deploy and maintain ML production pipelines
Expertise in TensorFlow, PyTorch, Huggingface, LlamaIndex, Langchain
