About the Role
AI evaluation and post-training infrastructure is becoming critical as frontier models need better ways to measure reasoning, reliability, and real-world performance. Zstate AI is hiring a Founding AI Engineer to build multi-step agents that turn enterprise workflows into production-ready agentic systems.
What you'll do
- Sketch agent architectures: subagents, routing, handoffs, planning, and state management
- Build agents with LLMs, tool use, retrieval, and memory frameworks
- Write evaluation frameworks for iterating on prompts and architecture
- Integrate agents with client APIs, databases, vector stores, and MCP tool integrations
- Ship agents to production with observability, tracing, and error analysis
- Sit with clients and domain experts to translate workflows into specs and iterate on feedback
- Own projects end to end from architecture to client production deployment
What we're looking for
- 3–8 years in backend or full-stack engineering with production systems track record
- At least one year of hands-on AI engineering: agents, LLM workflows, or similar
- Practical experience with LangChain, LangGraph, or similar frameworks
- Habit of using prompt engineering and evaluation frameworks
