About the Role
As enterprises accelerate adoption of large language models and agentic AI platforms, financial services firms are investing heavily in senior data science talent who can bridge research, engineering, and governance. State Street is hiring a Lead Data Scientist (AVP) in Bangalore to shape the science strategy for its Agentic AI platform initiative — a high-impact role for experienced professionals who want to operationalize generative AI at enterprise scale.
What you'll do
- Lead end-to-end delivery of AI/ML and LLM-based solutions from problem framing through deployment and monitoring
- Architect generative AI and agentic applications including prompt engineering, fine-tuning, embeddings, and RAG
- Define best practices for model evaluation, benchmarking, error taxonomy, and explainability
- Build and maintain knowledge graphs and graph-based reasoning engines
- Partner with engineering and platform teams to productionize models and integrate into enterprise workflows
- Ensure compliance with Responsible AI practices and enterprise MRM controls
- Drive creation and adoption of reusable AI assets and MLOps/LLMOps pipelines
- Communicate complex technical findings and risks to stakeholders including senior leadership
- Mentor and guide data scientists, fostering innovation and knowledge sharing
- Stay current with advancements in LLMs, generative AI, and agentic systems
What we're looking for
- BS/BTech or Master's in Data Science, Computer Science, Mathematics, Statistics, or related quantitative field
- 8+ years overall IT experience with 5+ years in ML/statistical modeling and 2+ years in generative AI/LLMs
- Strong proficiency in Python and ML frameworks (Scikit-learn, PyTorch, TensorFlow, Keras)
- Hands-on experience with LLMs, NLP, prompt engineering, embeddings, vector databases, and RAG
Skills & Technologies
Required
BS/BTech or Master's in Data Science, Computer Science, Mathematics, Statistics, or related quantitative field
8+ years overall IT experience with 5+ years in ML/statistical modeling and 2+ years in generative AI/LLMs
Strong proficiency in Python and ML frameworks (Scikit-learn, PyTorch, TensorFlow, Keras)
Hands-on experience with LLMs, NLP, prompt engineering, embeddings, vector databases, and RAG
Experience with structured and unstructured data, feature engineering, and model experimentation
Solid understanding of model validation, explainability, testing, monitoring, and Responsible AI
Proficiency with Azure and/or AWS for AI/ML development and deployment
Experience with graph databases (Neo4j, DGL), knowledge graphs, and semantic search
